Kurdish fighters associated with the PKK, which has long been outlawed by Ankara, control much of northeastern Syria and northern Iraq. The group has carried out numerous attacks on Turkish institutions.

Two assailants - a man and a woman - carried out the assault with automatic rifles and explosives on the headquarters of TUSAS, Turkish media reported. Turkish security forces have detained 176 people on suspicion of PKK membership, Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced.

Also on Friday, Turkey’s Air Force said it has struck multiple Kurdish targets in Iraq and Syria. The operation followed a security meeting in Istanbul led by President Erdogan and attended by the Turkish foreign, interior and defense ministers, the head of the intelligence agency, the chief of general staff, and other senior officials.
