In a phone call with his Danish counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Fidan affirmed that the continuous vile attacks against the Quran will incite religious hatred.

The comments came after a small group of anti-Islam activists set fire to the Quran in front of the Egyptian and Turkish embassies in Copenhagen on Tuesday, after similar protests in Denmark and Sweden over recent weeks.

Rasmussen wrote on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that Turkey and Denmark are close allies and expressed his hope that these provocative acts will not affect the relationship between the two countries.

The same day, Sweden’s migration authority said it is re-examining the residency permit of Iraqi refugee Salwan Momika, who is behind several Quran desecrations in the capital Stockholm in recent weeks, causing a global uproar.

The move was made after Swedish courts have ruled that police cannot stop burnings of holy scriptures.

Attacks on the Quran by a group of people in Sweden and Denmark in the past weeks have offended many Muslim countries and created unprecedented diplomatic tensions. On Monday, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will convene a meeting to discuss these cases in more details.
