The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that 2,488 people were captured Friday while attempting to cross into Turkey from Syria. Border Guard forces also detained 61 others while attempting to illegally enter Greece, it added. There were no details on the nationalities of the detainees.
Turkey has become the transit point for migrants from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan to Europe despite tighter security measures, including building walls along Turkish border with Syria and Iran.
