The Danish Prime Minister rejected the idea that it would be necessary for the US to take over Greenland, stressing that the US has no right to annex any of the three parts of the Danish Realm - Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.
“I would therefore strongly urge the United States to stop the threats against a historically close ally and against another country and another people who have said very clearly that they are not for sale,” she added.
The Arctic island's strategic position between Europe and North America makes it a key site when the US, China, and Russia are increasing their interest in the Arctic with new shipping routes opened by melting ice. Greenland lies on the shortest missile trajectory between Russia and the US.
