They agreed to push for domestic approvals of the TPP. It has become unclear whether the TPP will come into force due to Donald Trump — who has opposed the free trade pact — winning the US presidential election.
During the ministerial meeting, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said they would make efforts to convince the next administration of the importance of the TPP. The participating countries will hold a summit on Saturday. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US President Barack Obama and others are expected to exchange views.
