(VOVworld) - Ho Chi Minh City Law School and Vietnam Lawyers Association have held a workshop on the UN Convention against torture and experience for Vietnam. During the event on Friday, delegates suggested torture to be considered a crime in the Criminal Code to prevent and strictly deal with torture in all forms. They called for definition of cases when the suspect may be interrogated at night, the right to be silent when under arrest and solicitors’ participation in investigation. The workshop coincided with Vietnam’s recent ratification of the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. The President submitted the Convention to the National Assembly for approval during its 8th session.
