Mr. Hernandez is on a visit to Vietnam to attend a ceremony marking 50 years since Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s trip, braving numerous dangers, to visit newly liberated areas in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces.
As the first and only foreign head of state to visit the liberated zone before the war ended, Fidel Castro’s historic visit became a symbol of faithful and fraternal solidarity between the two countries.
President Hernandez said the image of Fidel Castro waving the flag of the National Liberation Front for South Vietnam at base 241, a few kilometers from the enemy, symbolizes the immortal brotherhood between Vietnam and Cuba.
He quoted the famous saying of leader Castro: “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood.”
