(VOVworld) - The first UN World Humanitarian Summit opened in Istanbul, Turkey on Monday.

At the 2-day summit, world leaders will discuss ways to improve how aid is given and how the world responds to crises toward establishing a global emergency response system.
Prior to the summit, Pope Francis delivered a prayer for global peace and stability and called on all countries to work harder to find solutions to the tragic humanitarian crises caused by armed conflicts, extreme poverty, climate change, and environmental pollution.
He asked summit participants to commit themselves to saving the lives of innocent people around the world.
