At the Conference of the States Parties of the Chemical Weapons Convention on Monday in the Hague, the Netherlands, Ban Ki-moon called on the world to destroy the remaining chemical weapons, for world peace. Mr. Ban expressed his hope that chemical weapons would not be used as a weapon of war. The UN Chief said that the UN was concerned about the information concerning chemical weapons being used, or being likely to be used, in the current crisis in Syria. Mr. Ban said anyone who uses chemical weapon with any reason could be considered a dangerous criminal.

In another development, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the UN’s proposal to investigate the chemical weapons in Syria is contrary to the Syrian government’s proposals. Earlier, the UN Chief said that a UN Convoy is now in the Republic of Cyprus, and will move forward to Syria within 1 day to investigate allegations of chemical weapons attack.
