Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc joined other ASEAN leaders and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in emphasizing the importance of ASEAN-China strategic partnership in ensuring regional peace, security, stability and prosperity. They agreed to promote dialogues, cooperation, trust building and the formation of and compliance with norms towards an early finalization of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea for peace, stability and cooperation in the East Sea.
ASEAN and China pledged to promote trade and investment to achieve a two-way trade turnover of 1 trillion US dollars by 2020 while strengthening the 2025 Masterplan on ASEAN Connectivity and the Belt and Road Initiative as well as innovation, reform, e-commerce and digital economy.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc reiterated the ASEAN respect of China’s role in securing peace and stability for regional cooperation, development and prosperity.
