Thailand proposes ASEAN Ministerial summit on East Sea

Thailand on Thursday proposed to conduct an ASEAN ministerial summit in August to discuss the East Sea. During the ASEAN summit in Brunei, Thailand’s Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow said his counterparts are consulting their Ministers to schedule a specific date for the summit.

Thailand on Thursday proposed to conduct an ASEAN ministerial summit in August to discuss the East Sea. During the ASEAN summit in Brunei, Thailand’s Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow said his counterparts are consulting their Ministers to schedule a specific date for the summit. The ASEAN-China working group on the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) will hold talks on May 29 in Thailand. ASEAN’s Foreign Ministers will meet their Chinese counterpart in Beijing in September to discuss sea disputes and the Code on Conduct in the East Sea (COC). Thailand is now serving as coordinator for the ASEAN-China relationship.
