Deputy Police Chief Somyot Poompanmoung said that 38 teams of both police and soldiers were being deployed at 8 areas in Bangkok and there have not been signs of protest. Earlier, Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha had warned protesters of strict punishments. Tensions have escalated since the army conducted a coup to topple the government on May 22 with and explanation that this action was necessary to restore order after 7 months of political instability.
