UN Under-Secretary-General Herve Ladsous said Wednesday that the situation in Syria remains the utmost concern of the UN Security Council. Ladsous, who held talks with some Syrian government officials yesterday, said in a press conference that although more than half of the UN Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) observers have been sent back to their countries, those who stay will continue the mission. Ladsous said the UN Security Council would consider prolonging the observers’ mission in Syria if the violence lessens and the parties stops using heavy weapons.
