(VOVworld) – At least 17 people were killed and 26 injured in a suicide bombing in Baghdad on Monday.

Iraqi security officials said the attacker blew up the bombs as people were leaving the al-Khairat mosque in Baghdad’s Sinak commercial area following noon prayers on Monday. Baghdad has recently been blasted by bloody bombings carried out by the Islamic State. There are fears that the number of attacks will increase during the Muharram holiday as thousands of Shiite Muslims pilgrimage to the holy city of Karbala in south-western Iraq.
