ITU Digital World 2020, which was initiated by Vietnam, is being held online for the first time, using a “Made in Vietnam” technology platform.
State-of-the-art technology, including 2D and 3D video, developed by Vietnamese engineers, enables spectators to interact with exhibits, try out virtual reality glasses, and listen to an audio guide. On the main website there are 150,000 booths in 2D and six booths in 3D set up by Vietnamese tech firms Viettel, VinSmart, FPT, CMC, and BKAV.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, “The Vietnamese government considers IT-telecommunications infrastructure development a top priority and digitization a key solution for rapid, sustainable development. We reiterate our commitment to cooperating with ITU members to build a digital world together. This event is a milestone of digital transformation towards a digital economy in Vietnam and around the world.”
The opening ceremony was followed by a ministerial online meeting to discuss the role of digital technology during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
