(VOVworld)State President Truong Tan Sang has hailed role of women in the cause of national construction and defense. At a reception for 100 outstanding delegates to the on-going 11th National Women’s Congress in Hanoi, President Sang said history provides many examples of staunch and heroic Vietnamese women, a source of great pride for the nation. He said as Vietnam accelerates the renewal and global integration process, women should help other social groups overcome difficulties and strengthen unity to contribute to the common cause of national industrialization and modernization.

He said he believes the Women’s Congress will be a great success and a newly-elected executive committee will continue to work toward promoting gender equality, and creating conditions for women to study and improve their qualifications, while generating jobs, especially for those living in disadvantaged areas. He also proposed that the new executive committee put forward effective solutions to protect women’s dignity.

The ongoing 11th National Women Congress in Hanoi has drawn women from across the nation. Le Thi Hanh of Hoa Bac village of Da Nang City said 'As a member of the local women’s union, I hope the congress will be successful and initiate more practical measures to help women improve their lives spiritually and materially. Women should be empowered to increase their own family’s happiness, prosperity and gender equality'.

Van Thi Kim Nhung, President of the Women’s Union of Tay Son District in Binh Dinh province expressed her hope that the Congress will elect knowledgeable and responsible cadres. She said 'I hope the Union will design a detailed policy on allowances for women cadres at the grassroots level and organize training courses to improve their competence'.

Ke Suu, Head of the Ethnicity Board of Thua Thien Hue Province representing local ethnic women said 'I do hope that the Congress will devote more attention to women in remote, border areas and on islands as they are still at the greatest disadvantage. I expect that ethnic women will be given more opportunities for integration so they will learn about renewal and contribute to the society'.
