Spinoff effect of Vietnam’s “bamboo” styled foreign affairs

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in his 60-minute keynote speech at the first National Conference on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday elaborated on Vietnam’s determination to develop its “bamboo” styled foreign affairs school reflecting Ho Chi Minh’s foreign affairs pathway with Vietnamese fine values, brave but flexible, steadfast and innovative to cope with challenges. 

The message has been well received by foreign affairs staff, especially Ambassadors and Head of Missions abroad.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Tran Viet Thai said: “This is a historic conference with deep historical message, emphasizing on flexibility, being strong but humble in the protection of national interests in different stages of time. The Party leader said different time has different interests but national interests come first. Diplomacy is war and conflict prevention, national protection from far and early with early prediction of opportunities and challenges to serve national development.”

Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi was impressed with the Party leader’s bamboo metaphor, as the plant symbolizes Vietnamese countryside and people with thin pole but firmly rooted, representing unity, mindfulness of the situation.

“The Party General Secretary believes that Vietnam’s diplomacy must reflect Vietnamese people’s culture, unique quality, firm but flexible to cope with all circumstances with persistence in key principle,” Mr. Khoi said.

The Ambassadors said they have gained more confidence as the diplomats are backed by the whole Party, people and army in helping them fulfill their glorious tasks of protecting national interests.
