His statement came after Spain’s supreme court rejected a request from prosecutors to reactivate the international arrest warrant for him. Speaking at a discussion in Denmark, he said it’s time to find a political solution for Catalonia.

The decision to reactivate the arrest warrant was postponed until the Catalan parliament is restored to normal activity, the court said in a statement on Monday.

Puigdemont is likely to face dozens of years in prison for leading Catalonia’s independence movement. He has been living in exile in Belgium since he was discharged as Catalonia’s president. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy warned that Madrid will maintain direct control of Catalonia if Puigdemont is sworn in from Belgium.
