(VOVWORLD) -South Korea’s new Acting President Choi Sang-mok has said the government will do its utmost to ensure that the nation's security, unwavering economy, and stable public order are maintained so that the safety of the state and the daily lives of the people are not disrupted.

Mr. Choi made the statement as he convened the National Security Council on Friday after becoming a new acting president following the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

The Council issued an emergency directive aimed at strengthening security measures and deterring any potential actions from North Korea.

Acting President Choi told reporters that the government is prioritizing an assessment of the diplomatic and security situation while focusing on the 2025 budget to achieve economic and social development goals.

A US State Department spokesperson said on Friday that Washington is ready to work with Acting President Choi and South Korean government.
