South Korea, Japan, US discuss developments on the Korean peninsula

Senior US, South Korean and Japanese officials on Monday kicked off their tripartite meeting in Seoul to discuss new developments on the Korean peninsula. The meeting took place amid concerns that the North Korea is planning another nuclear test. The one-day talks involve Glyn Davies, the US special envoy for North Korea policy, Lim Sung-Nam, South Korea's top nuclear envoy, and his Japanese counterpart Shinsuke Sugiyama.

Speaking at the meeting, head of the South Korean delegation Lim Sung Nam stated that the international has requested Pyongyang to refrain and avoid any further provocations after it failed missile launching in March. He added that there will be a different path for Pyongyang if it makes the right decision. Lim also expressed his hope that the Monday talks could "lead North Korea to the right side of peace".

US special envoy for North Korea policy Glynn Davies will leave for Beijing on Tuesday, where he plans to meet China's chief nuclear envoy Wu Dawei, and will go on to Tokyo Wednesday.
