Since Vietnam and Sierra Leone established diplomatic relations in 1982, the two have maintained a good political relationship. They have cooperated economically and in other fields. In 2020, two-way trade exceeded 49 million USD, up 200% from the 17 million USD recorded in 2018.
This visit will bolster bilateral ties as African countries like Sierra Leone seek to expand their relations with Asia-Pacific countries like Vietnam.
