Seoul considers proposing inter-Korean military talks

(VOVWORLD) - The South Korean government is considering holding inter-Korean military talks with its northern neighbour in early 2018 providing that Pyongyang not conduct additional missile and nuclear provocations.

Several news sources revealed on Wednesday that South Korea is compiling a secret roadmap on nuclear disarmament with different strategies on approaching North Korea to address all current tensions. Instead of making proposals after North Korea agrees to disarmament, South Korea is expected to take the first steps and encourage North Korea to return to the negotiating table.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in has suggested his country’s joint military drills with the US be postponed until the completion of Winter Olympics, scheduled for Pyeongchang early next year. However, he said the move would depend on North Korea's actions in the coming weeks. Washington immediately voiced its opposition to President Moon’s proposal.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, The Telegraph said the White House has “dramatically” stepped up preparation for a military solution to halt North Korea’s nuclear program. One option is destroying a launch site before it is used by the regime for a new missile test. Stockpiles of weapons could also be targeted.
