Senior Hamas weapons expert killed

(VOVWORLD) - Israel's military said on Monday that a senior weapons expert for Hamas was killed in an Israeli air attack in the Gaza Strip.

The man, identified as Muhammad Salah, was in charge of projects and development at Hamas's Weapons Manufacturing Headquarters.

Senior Hamas official Basem Naim said that planned reconciliation talks between rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah had been postponed with no reschedule date. He said Fatah requested the delay. The postponement was confirmed by three unnamed Fatah officials, who said a formal announcement on the matter would be forthcoming.

In a speech to the Israeli Parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is engaged in a multi-front conflict initiated by Iran, aimed at the destruction of Israel. Netanyahu vowed that Israel will thwart Iran's plans at any cost and achieve victory in the campaigns against Iran-sponsored armed groups like Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen.

Al Jazeera News reported Monday that Egypt has collaborated with the UN over the past three weeks to dispatch 2,300 trucks into Gaza via the Israeli-controlled Karm Abu Salem border crossing. A recent report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs highlighted a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, particularly in the southern region.
