Senators voted 50-40 on the proposal from Democratic Senators Tim Kaine and Tom Udall to block the president from using funding to carry out military action without congressional authorization. Sixty yes votes would have been required to get the amendment added to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Earlier, Senator Tim Kaine said the vote is an important move as in case it’s not ratified, it would force the congress to discuss on military act against Iran. The $750 billion National Defense Authorization Act was passed Thursday amid growing tensions between the US and Iran after Trump decided to withdraw from the JCPOA while continue imposing sanctions on Iran.
