Speaking at a press conference in the White House, President Obama committed to mobilizing all resources for the investigation and bringing the culprit to justice. He also asked federal agencies to assist the local police to prevent such a further possible attack and arrest anyone suspected of carrying out terrorist acts. In Boston, the Federal Aviation Administration has created a no-fly zone, 10 kilometers around the area of the bomb blasts. The police in Washington and the cities of New York, San Francisco and Chicago were on high alert. Security at sea ports, air ports, railways, sports venues and at the sites of government agencies were also enhanced.

Meanwhile, speaking at a ceremony at the UN Headquarters commemorating the 19th anniversary of the Rwanda Genocide, UN Chief Ban Ki-moon condemned the bombing at the Boston Marathon and sent his condolences to the victims’ families. Many indexes on the US stock market fell sharply following the bomb blasts. At the close of the trading session on Monday, Standart&Poor’s 500 Index dropped by 2.3 percent while Dow Jones and Nasdaq Composite decreased by 1.8 percent and nearly 2 percent respectively.
