According to the Lao Cai Hydrometeorological Station, on Monday, the temperature in Sa Pa dropped to 12.4°C, much lower than the typical summer average of 20–25°C. Other areas also recorded low temperatures, such as Bac Ha at 17.5°C and Pho Rang (Bao Yen) at 22.2°C.

Meteorological experts said that this cold spell has led to exceptionally low temperatures for the end of May. Since November 2024, Vietnam's weather has been influenced by El Niño, but the phenomenon has weakened and transitioned to La Niña, which strengthens cold air masses and prolongs their impact into the summer.

The cold air in Lao Cai is gradually weakening, and temperatures are slightly increasing. On Monday night, lowland areas are forecast to reach 22–23°C, mountainous areas around 18–19°C, while Sa Pa town remains the coldest at approximately 13–14°C, possibly accompanied by light fog due to high humidity.
