A Russian Foreign Ministry statement said the two sides discussed the schedule of high-level contacts.

They discussed security risks in the Asia-Pacific region, and addressed regional developments related to the Korean Peninsula, Iran's nuclear program, and other issues.

Mr Lavrov emphasized the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine before achieving any lasting peace.
