(VOVWORLD) - Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has suggested the format of dialogue involving five Northern European countries, three Baltic republics, and Russia (5+3+1) be resumed to discuss problems of stability and security in the Baltic region.

Larov made his suggestion on Friday in Moscow following talks with Foreign Minister of Sweden Ann Linde.

Sweden is taking the rotating Chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Sweden and Poland are NATO’s partners while the remaining Northern European countries are NATO’s members. Relations between NATO and Russia have grown tense since NATO expelled eight Russian diplomats from its Brussels headquarters in October.
