(VOVworld) - The Russian Foreign Ministry demanded on Monday that Britain immediately clarify why the London bank account of Russia's main state news agency Rossiya Segodnya has been frozen.

The ministry said it had information that news agency’s account with Britain bank of Barclays was closed Wednesday because of sanctions on its general director, Mr. Dmitry Kiselyov.

In an announcement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the agency was not told the fate of its money and the situation was making it difficult for it to operate in Britain.

The US and the EU have imposed sanctions on several Russian citizens following Russia's annexation of Crimea last year.

Kiselyov was named in the sanction list due to his anti-Western point of view.

There has been no information on Britain’s response towards the Russian Foreign Ministry’s announcement.
