Reuters quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying on Sunday that “It was not Russia that broke off negotiations in 2022. It was Kyiv. Nevertheless, we are proposing that Kyiv resume direct negotiations without any preconditions." "Despite everything, we offer the Kyiv authorities to resume negotiations already on Thursday, in Istanbul."

President Putin added: "We do not rule out that during these negotiations it will be possible to agree on some new truces, a new ceasefire, and a real truce, which would be observed not only by Russia, but also by the Ukrainian side."

“Our proposal, as they say, is on the table, the decision is now up to the Ukrainian authorities and their curators,” said Putin.

On May 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of UK, France, Germany, and Poland who were visiting Kyiv, held a phone call with US President Donald Trump to discuss peace efforts.

They all agreed to enforce a complete and unconditional ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea for at least 30 days starting May 12, paving the way for peace talks to end the over three-year conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
