His remarks came after French President Emmanuel Macron suggested expanding France’s nuclear protection to European allies.
On Wednesday, Macron also announced plans to hold strategic talks with European partners on the potential use of nuclear weapons to defend the entire European Union.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov swiftly responded to Macron's statement, calling it a "threat to Russia".
