(VOVworld) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said Russia is ready to help Syria carry its chemical weapons to Syria’s Latakia port. Lavrov added that Russia is also ready to offer warships to protect the cargo vessels.

Under an international agreement signed earlier, Danish and Norwegian ships will be used for the transfer of the Syrian chemical weapons from Latakia where the chemicals will be reloaded onto an American naval vessel to be destroyed in the Mediterranean Sea.

Italy’s Foreign Ministry said Italian authorities will provide a port for the further transfer of Syria’s chemical weapons. It is not yet clear where that mission will take place.
