Peskov said the two leaders have only indicated an interest in the possibility.

The same day, Svetlana Lukash, a Russian official at the G20 summit in Germany last week, said the two Presidents had a 40-minute conversation about cyber security on the sidelines of the G20 summit. She said President Putin proposed forming a working group, but this does not mean that it will start working immediately, that this is just an idea which Russia needs time to consider.

President Trump on Sunday backtracked on establishing a cyber security unit with Russia, hours after promoting it on Twitter following talks with President Putin. Mr. Trump said the fact that he and President Putin discussed a cyber security unit doesn't mean he thinks it can happen. He then noted that an agreement with Russia on a ceasefire in Syria "can and did" happen.
