Russia agrees to evacuate wounded Ukrainian soldiers from Azovstal steel plant

(VOVWORLD) - Russia’s defence ministry said on Monday that an agreement has been reached to evacuate injured soldiers from the Azovstal steel plant in Ukraine’s port city of Mariupol, and that a ceasefire was proposed for the duration of the evacuation, The Ukrainian soldiers would be taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Novoazovsk.

There was no immediate confirmation from Ukrainian officials.

Last Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine had proposed to evacuate 38 of the most seriously wounded soldiers.

In return, Kyiv would return some captured Russian soldiers.
