(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese Embassy in France held a respect-paying ceremony and opened a condolence book for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday.

Various diplomatic delegations, including Ambassadors of Laos, UNESCO, Cuba, Sri Lanka, Russia, Morocco, Myanmar, representatives from the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Japanese and US embassies, the French-Vietnamese Friendship Associations, and many overseas Vietnamese attended and wrote in the book of condolences.

Mathilde Teruya, Deputy Director of the Department of Asia and Oceania at the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, said: "On behalf of France, I extend condolences to the government and people of Vietnam upon hearing of the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong. As a senior leader, he consistently worked to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between France and Vietnam, which holds great significance for us."

Attending the ceremony, Mr. Firmin Edouard Matoko, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for African Department and Foreign Relations, said: "UNESCO expresses its deep respect for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a remarkable leader with an outstanding personality who made significant contributions to the peace of Vietnam and the world, and who cherished UNESCO's values. We hope his great example will continue to inspire people around the globe."

The Vietnamese Embassy in Turkey also held a tribute-paying ceremony and opened a condolence book on Thursday.

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhanettin Duran expressed deep respect for Nguyen Phu Trong’s contributions to Vietnam-Turkey relations, stating that his legacy will be cherished by the Vietnamese people and globally.

The Permanent Representative Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and other international organizations in Geneva (Switzerland) held a respect-paying ceremony and opened a condolence book for Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong. Numerous diplomatic delegations in Geneva paid their respects, recognizing Nguyen Phu Trong's contributions to Vietnam’s development and international relations.

Similar ceremonies were conducted by Vietnamese embassies and diplomatic missions in Germany, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Iran, Belgium, Israel, the Czech Republic, Argentina, and South Africa, with significant participation from Vietnamese expatriates and representatives of foreign diplomatic agencies.
