(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese people abroad sent home more than 12 billion USD last year, a year-on-year increase of 10%, according to the State Bank of Vietnam

Remittances help the local population improve their standard of living and provide an important source of investment for the country’s growth.

They have also contributed to stabilizing the foreign exchange rate in Vietnam.

Money sent home from Vietnamese expatriates totalled 17.2 billion USD in 2020, making the nation one of the top 10 remittance recipients in the world.
