The public has voiced concern over French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius’s statement on Thursday that France and the UK are ready to arm rebels in Syria, even without full support from the European Union.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said arming the Syrian terrorist groups is a serious violation of international law. The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that weapons may fall into the hands of terrorists and urged negotiations between the Syrian government and the opposition. The opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) applauded the French Foreign Minister’s announcement. The EU said removing the Syrian arms embargo could “happen at any time”.
