All 12 surveillance stations surrounding the commune were also removed, together with public security, military forces, and medical workers monitoring the situation.

The announcement brought to an end the 21-day quarantine to keep the outbreak from spreading. Son Loi has not recorded any new infections during the quarantine period.

Deputy Health Minister Do Xuan Tuyen attributed the success to the efforts and support of local citizens and the determination of functional agencies. He called on Vinh Phuc province to continue monitoring patients and keep abreast of the situation, and handle possible recurrences of the virus.

Nguyen Ngoc Son, Chairman of Son Loi commune’s People’s Committee, said: “The steering committee continues to guide rural communes on quarantine and prevention measures.”

“It’s vital to pay attention to guest workers who return home from abroad and ask them to make a health declaration to identify those who can be placed under self-quarantine at home and those who must be officially quarantined to protect the community,” Son added.

As of February 13, Vietnam had 16 people who had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Vinh Phuc had 11 of those cases. All have been successfully treated and released from hospital. Vietnam has not recorded any new cases of the virus since February 13.
