Protestors who support former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia used bricks and home-made bombs to attack security forces. More than 11,000 policemen and rapid reaction forces were deployed to maintain security in the capital city of Dhaka. About 1000 protestors were arrested prior to the Sunday protest. Dhaka was isolated suspended bus, ferry and tram services. The leader of the opposition forces, Khaleda Zia, was kept under house arrest and prevented from contacting protestors. Previously, Khaleda Zia had urged people to conduct a huge march in Dhaka on Sunday to protest the general election scheduled for January 2014. Zia called for the establishment of a “committee of protest” in each village to prevent voting.
