(VOVworld) – Delegates discussed appropriate structures for trade unions in the garment and textile sector to protect workers’ interests, including salaries, jobs, and working conditions, at a seminar held in Ho Chi Minh City from Thursday to Saturday. Addressing the event, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Tran Van Ly said Vietnam currently has 3.5 million workers working for 5000 garment and textile and 800 leather and footwear businesses. Ly said the number of workers in these two sectors will continue to rise, thanks to Vietnam signing several free trade agreements with other countries, noting that this will require trade unions in these sectors to improve themselves to better represent their members.
