(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has rolled out many incentive policies to encourage startups and innovation with priority given to women, who account for more than half of the population and nearly half of the work force.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the statement at the awards ceremony for the 2023 contest “Women’s startups, promoting indigenous resources” in Hanoi on Saturday.

The contest was held as part of a project to support women's startups until 2025, known as Project 939. PM Chinh urged greater efforts to create the best conditions for women to start businesses, particularly in loan provision, legal counseling and trade promotion.

“I believe that the startup spirit will continue to spread and nurture women’s  passion and desire to contribute to national development. I hope there will be more internationally recognized female-led startups in Vietnam,” he said.

At the ceremony, PM Chinh and Vietnam Women’s Union leaders presented awards to the contest’s winners and insignia to 33 shortlisted entries.

Since Project 939 started in 2017, more than 80,000 business ideas of women have received assistance, over 70,000 women started their businesses, and nearly 5,000 women-led cooperative groups and cooperatives been set up.
