(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a telegram asking storm Wipha affected localities to strengthen efforts to cope with and overcome the storm aftermath.

Storm Wipha has caused torrential rain and strong wind in many northern and north-central provinces and cities and flash floods in Thanh Hoa province and some northern mountain provinces, seriously damaging infrastructure, crops, and property of local people. The Prime Minister sent condolences to families of the dead and missing people in the storm. The storm is forecast to continue causing flashfloods and landslides in the mountain region on Sunday. The Prime Minister asked affected localities to take prompt actions to overcome the storm aftermath. The National Committee for Disaster Response, Search and Rescue, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry and Public Security have mobilized forces to support the search and rescue work and help people to overcome disaster consequences. The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has closely followed the development of the storm and worked with relevant agencies to take prompt response measures.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien on Saturday visited Hai Phong city to inspect the city’s actions to overcome consequences of storm Wipha. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chuyen, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong Municipal People’s Committee, said: “We had asked localities to closely follow the rainfall to take prompt measures to prevent flooding. As a result, damage was inconsiderable. Now, all production activities have been resumed.”
