Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son told reporters that this was President Thuong’s first trip abroad since he took office, reflecting Vietnam’s policy of respecting and prioritizing its great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.
During the visit, President Thuong held talks and met with leaders and former leaders of Laos. The two sides reiterated their determination to constantly strengthen the Vietnam-Laos relationship, particularly mutual trust between the two countries’ leaders.
They agreed on measures to effectively implement agreements signed by the leaders of the two Parties and countries in order bolster bilateral cooperation in politics, national defense, security, economics, education, culture, sports, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides agreed to work closely to realize agreements between Politburos, the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Strategy in the 2021-2030 period, and the Vietnam-Laos Bilateral Cooperation Treaty in the 2021-2025 period.
Vietnam and Laos agreed to enhance communication and education in order for their young people to better understand the history of the close bond between the two countries and pledged to work closely and support each other at regional and global forums, especially within ASEAN.
