This is Mr. Thuong's first official visit to Japan as Vietnam’s Head of State and the fourth by a Vietnamese President since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on September 21, 1973.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, both Vietnam and Japan attach great importance to President Thuong's visit.

This important political event provides an opportunity for the two countries’ leaders to exchange views and reach agreements on major directions and specific measures to bring the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership to a new, stronger, and more comprehensive, substantive, and effective development phase.

The visit is anticipated to open a new chapter in Vietnam-Japan relations.
