Mr. Quang said that during President Trump’s state visit, both sides issued a joint statement on deepening the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership under the principle of respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political system. The visit marked an important milestone in bilateral ties and created strong momentum for the effective and stable development of the two countries’ partnership. President Tran Dai Quang said: “The President and I have discussed regional and global issues of mutual concerns, agreed to continue strengthening coordination at regional and global forums to help ensure peace and stability. We have also agreed on the importance of the US-ASEAN Strategic Partnership and believed that the flourishing Vietnam-US relations not only benefits each country but also contributes to boosting the US-ASEAN ties, to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in Asia-Pacific and the wider world.”

The Vietnamese President said both sides will increase bilateral contacts and dialogues, particularly the exchanges of visits and meetings on the sidelines of regional and global forums: “We will push the development of economics-trade-investment relations on the basis of mutual benefits, minimize trade-investment disputes between the two countries, and continue to effectively implement economic-trade deals signed by both sides. We will also increase cooperation in science-technology, environment, climate change, humanitarian issues, human resource training, and people-to-people exchanges. These aim to strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership for the two peoples’ benefits.”

President Trump said the US and Vietnam over the past 2 decades have together sought similarities based on shared interests and created connectivity to reach the current level of bilateral ties, which have been reflected through his Vietnam visit. He said: “As the President, I applaud your efforts to implement economic reforms and increase Vietnam's trade and investment in all directions. The US is enthusiastic about the reforms that promote economic prosperity for all Vietnamese citizens that we look to your growing middle class as the key market for American goods and services. We've just had a great discussion about American goods and services coming into Vietnam. Mr. President, thank you for being such a gracious host during my time right here in Vietnam. Over the past two decades, our nations have continued to grow closer in advancing our shared interest. The history of our two nations reveals the possibility for peace and progress in our world. Moving forward as partners, we will achieve great prosperity and success for the American people and for the Vietnamese people."

The US leader congratulated President Tran Dai Quang for successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang. He repeated the US’s commitment to a free, open, and independent Asia-Pacific which respects sovereignty, the rule of law, and responsible trade.
