(VOVworld) -  US President Barack Obama Monday vowed to act on his own on immigration reform, critisizing Republicans after the House of Representatives refused to pass an immigration bill this year. Obama told reporters that the House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner had announced that the House Republicans would not vote on immigration legislation approved by the Senate last year. Obama said this failure ran counter to the majority of people’s expectations which was bad for national security, the economy, and the future. Obama said he had instructed the Homeland Security Department to present him with executive actions he can take to deal with immigration reform.

Obama’s administration has been alerted to high levels of illegal child immigration. According to a survey carried out last October, more than 52,000 unaccompanied children illegally immigrated into the US, most of them from Central American countries. The US doesn’t apply resident regulations to illegally immigrated children, so they would be treated under the immigration law and returned home.
