Poland said 19 objects had entered its airspace and that it had shot down those posing a threat.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he had activated Article 4 of NATO's treaty, under which alliance members can demand consultations with their allies.
Neither Poland nor NATO has yet given a full account of what they suspect the drones were doing. Since
NATO’s creation in 1949, Article 4 has been invoked seven times, most recently in February 2022 following the conflict in Ukraine. Article 4 states: "The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened."
