PM sends condolences to families of victims in UK

(VOVWORLD) - Right after the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and the Foreign Ministry reported that the police of Essex announced there were Vietnamese people, unidentified yet, in the incident that saw 39 people died in a lorry in a region northeast of London, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc from Bangkok sent his deep condolences to the bereaved families.

The PM asked the Ministry of Public Security and the Foreign Ministry to immediately send a working team headed by their leading officials to the UK to work with authorities there and do the related work. Mr. Phuc also asked the administrations of the localities which are home to the bereaved families to take suitable measures and encourage them to soon overcome the huge losses.

British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward has expressed his condolences after Essex police announced that they believe the victims who were found dead in the back of a refrigerated lorry in Essex, the UK, are Vietnamese.

In a message delivered on Saturday, the ambassador said it has been one of the most difficult weeks for him in his career as a diplomat seeing the horrendous tragedy in Essex and the levels of anxiety and concern in Vietnam. He said he and his team at the British embassy in Hanoi have been working day in and day out with colleagues in the UK and Vietnam.
