PM requests allocating 10-15% of budget for ethnic group, mountain development

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday stressed the importance of the national target program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, calling for continued improvement of institutions, mechanisms, and policies, and prioritized resources for the Program.

Prime Minister Chinh chaired a conference in Hanoi to review the national target program for socio-economic development in mountain and ethnic minority areas 2021-2025 and set directions for the next five years.

“Balance the allocation of priority resources for the program. The target for the next five years is to increase by about 10-15%. In the previous term, we had 137 trillion VND (5.3 billion USD), this term the budget amount is estimated at about 160 trillion VND (6 billion USD). Adopt fiscal policies, give access to land, reduce taxes, fees, charges... to help ethnic minorities in mountainous areas escape poverty sustainably.”

The implementation process requires high determination, great efforts, and drastic actions, the Prime Minister said and expressed his belief in achieving the goal of improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
