Addressing the reception, the Prime Minister said Vietnam’s goal is to develop rapid and sustainable economic growth while ensuring effective control of the macro-economy. Dung said Vietnam aims to promote economic development in connection with ensuring social progress and equality, social security, sustainable poverty reduction and improvements of people’s living conditions. To this end, the Prime Minister said, the Vietnamese government has been making efforts to fine-tune the market economic mechanism and strengthen international economic integration. Vietnam also focuses on improving its competitive edge, restructuring public investment, SOEs, the system of commercial banks and agriculture. The IMF official praised the fund’s cooperation with Vietnam saying that IMF was ready to support Vietnam, especially in policy consultancy, technical assistance and capacity building.
